Phonak Audéo B Review

In October, Phonak Australia launched its new Audéo receiver-in-canal (RIC) hearing aid range.  The new range uses Phonak’s new “Belong” (or B for short) hearing aid platform. The Phonak “Belong” platform supersedes Phonak’s two-year-old “Venture” platform and features an upgrade to its AutoSense OS operating system.  The upgrade is intended to better meet the needs of active clients.  Phonak claims that their new system improves on the hearing aids’ ability to automatically sense the wearer’s listening environment in real-time and adaptively activate its features to optimise sound quality.

The “Belong” platform is initially being released on Phonak’s Audéo receiver-in-canal (RIC) hearing aid series consisting of five RIC styles on four performance levels.

  1. Phonak Audéo B-10 (B30, B50, B70, B90 performance levels)
  2. Phonak Audéo B-312 (B30, B50, B70, B90 performance levels)
  3. Phonak Audéo B-312T (B30, B50, B70, B90 performance levels)
  4. Phonak Audéo B-13 (B30, B50, B70, B90 performance levels)
  5. Phonak Audéo B-R (B50, B70, B90 performance levels)

The comprehensive range consists of an ultra-discreet 10A battery model as well as fully-featured 312 and 13 battery models.  In addition, with the Belong range, Phonak is releasing its first rechargeable lithium-ion battery hearing aid: The Phonak Audéo B-R.   The Phonak Audéo B-R has a built-in lithium-ion rechargeable battery that can provide up to 24 hours of use per charge.

Phonak has a reputation for good hardware design and reliability.  In addition to a new discreet and sleek styling, all the Audéo B RIC models are IP68 rated meaning they are dust and water resistant.  They are also compatible with the industry’s most comprehensive range of wireless accessories for wirelessly streaming audio.

We think the Phonak Audéo Belong is one of the best all-round hearing aids on the market.  Unlike other manufacturers that initially release new technology only in their premium segments, Phonak has a history of introducing new technology at multiple performance levels down to the mid-range.  The Phonak Audéo Belong is no exception to this, and means that wearers can take advantage of the new technologies without spending a fortune.

Phonak’s predecessor “Venture” platform set the industry-benchmark with respect to sound quality and speech intelligibility.  Belong’s improvements in how it automatically and adaptively manages wearer’s listening environments will mean wearers rarely need to manually adjust their hearing aids.  This is a great step forward for management.  In addition, for wearers who find regular battery-changes fiddly, the new Phonak Audéo B-R rechargeable hearing aid could make hearing aid management much easier.

The Phonak Audéo “Belong” will be available for sale in Australia from the 17th of October.
